Vice Chairman of 6th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference

Professor Dr. Fei, Hsiao-Tung was from Wujiang, Jiangsu Province, he entered 1st middle school of Soochow University in 1923, entered Soochow University in 1928. When 1930 he was transmited to Yanjing University, majored in sociology. After he graduated in 1933, he came to graduate school in Tsinghua University. He studied in Britain in 1936, in the London School of Economics he studied and researched Socio-anthropology, and got a PH.D. in Philosophy from London University in 1938, when he wrote and published the famous paper "Chinese Peasants' Life". In the same year he came back to China. He became a professor for many universities, participated in China Democratic League in 1942, and attended the 1st National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After 1952, he became Vice President of Central University for Nationalities, Vice Director of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and Vice Director of the China Democratic League in Beijing. After 1978, he became Vice Director of The Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology in Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Director of The Institute of Sociology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, committee member of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council and consultant of the State's Ethnic Affairs Committee, and President of China's Sociology Association. In 1980's Annual Conference for Applied Anthropology in United State of America, he was awarded the Honorary Malinowski Prize, in 1981 he obtained the Huxlay Medal awarded by The Royal Society of Anthropology. In 1982 he was elected to be Honorary Academician of LSE, University of London, He also obtained the Encyclopedia Britannica Prize in United State of America in 1987. Between 1983 and 1988, he was Vice Chairman of National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He was also a representative of the 1st National People's Congress, Vice Chairman of 7th and 8th NPC Standing Committee, Committee Man of 3rd and 4th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Member of Standing Committee of 5th CPPCC, Member of Central Standing Committee of 2nd China Democratic League, Vice Central Chairman of 4th and 5th China Democratic League, Central Chairman of 6th and 7th China Democratic League, and Honorary Chairman of the 8th China Democratic League.
