Introduction of 2006 International Forum for
Innovation, Environment and Education
Beijing China

October 24-25, 2006

With the deepening of economic integration and the growing of global economy, resources scarcity and environment deterioration became severe challenges to human beings. The conception of sustainable development and technical innovation was accepted as a consensus internationally. The International Forum for Innovation, Environment and Education is being held under the auspices, and with the strong support of national and international universities and academic research institutions. The Beijing Association of Science and Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Warsaw University of Technology, Humboldt University at Berlin, University of Vienna, University of International Business and Economics, Sichuan Academy of Social Science and Beijing Women Bank are all jointly organizing and sponsoring the event.

 

The world focused on China because of its stable and fast economic development as the biggest developing country, as well as its resources and environmental problems. Chinese government currently stated to develop on a basis which emphasizes sustainable, innovative and consistent growth of economy while encourages comprehensive development of individuals, and this forum aims right to cultivate innovative spirit, promote innovation system of economy, management and education, further expand international exchange and cooperation. We hope to help raise understanding and support for China’s current policy and strategy in international society, and contribute to sustainable development of the world economy and society. This forum will continue the topics of the last one, and we will invite renewed scholars and experts all around the world to discuss about “Innovation and Circular Economy,” “Innovation and Engineering Management” and “Innovation in Education and Training”. The Forum has attracted attentions of related institutions and experts from home and abroad. Nearly 60 experts and scholars from all over the world will attend this Forum, which will be covered by major domestic and international media such as the China Environment Paper, Environmental Protection Magazine, International Management Review, and so on.

Introduction of the Speakers

Yuan ZHOU
lZHOU Yuan is the vice-chief of National Research Center for Science and Technology for Development at Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. He has been working in National Research Center since 1986. In 1992, he went to Harvard University and Tufts University as a visiting scholar. Dr.ZHOU has lead more than 60 projects on cooperation between countries or regions.
He has published more than 200 reports and papers in English and Chinese, and has written 10 academic works. Many of his achievements have been rewarded.He has attended international conferences sponsored by international institutions more than 50 times and gave speeches and work as the chair.

Murray Mortson 
Mr. Mortson graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1980 with a degree in Engineering. For over a quarter of a century Mr. Mortson has been involved in the energy industry. His career has spanned the engineering and construction worlds related to heavy industrial projects. Mr. Mortson has spent 9 years in construction and 10 years in the engineering world which included Colt Engineering where he was twice honored with Colt's Most Valuable Player award. Associated with the University of Calgary, Mr. Mortson is a lecturer in the faculty of graduate studies. Mr. Mortson held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Airborne for a period of 6 years. Mr. Mortson relinquished this post in 2003 when he was recruited for the Vice President position at Optima - Hatch, a subsidiary of Canada's largest engineering corporation. Recently, Mr. Mortson returned to Airborne where he resumed his responsibilities as President and Chief Operating Officer.
 
Chongfang MA
Chongfang MA was born in April 1940 in Ningpo, Zhejiang Province. He was the Dean of the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering, Beijing University of Technology. He is a professor and a tutor for PHD candidates at BJUT. He is Director of the Research Institute of Thermal Science and Energy Conservation, Chairman of the Department of Thermal Science and Engineering at Beijing University of Technology; Visiting Scientist of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Brigham Young University; Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA; Visiting Professor, Institute of Thermo Physics, the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia. His main professional interests are Electronic Cooling, Heat Transfer and Combustion in Internal Combustion Engines, Cooling Technology for Hot Steel Rolling, Heat transfer Augmentation and Its Applications in Energy Conservation. He had published more than 130 publications, including 15 papers selected in SCI, he had also 3 monographs on subjects including Combustion and Heat Transfer in Rotary Combustion Engines, and Enhanced Heat Transfer.

Markus Schwegler
Dr. Schwegler studied Applied Physical Geography at the University of Trier, Germany. After that he began with his graduation at the University of Essen, Institute of Ecology on air pollution control. Before Dr. Schwegler came to China he was working for PriceWaterhouseCoopers Germany in the field of Environmental and Risk Management.
Since 2004 Dr. Schwegler is working on behalf of a German government program for “The Administrative Centre for China’s Agenda 21”, Beijing China as Senior Advisor for Climate Protection.
His main area of work is: Developing of and consulting on projects potentially eligible under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Giving advice to different CDM Stakeholders (national and International) on Chinese market and framework conditions, Capacity building among project developers and local service providers for the successful implementation of the CDM in China.

Rodney J.McCann
An experienced entrepreneur, Rodney J. McCann has been involved in numerous businesses in a diverse number of industries. In addition to his responsibilities at Airborne, Mr. McCann is the President and CEO of Saskatchewan Minerals, an industry leading supplier of natural sodium sulfate to blue-chip customers.  Mr. McCann has been involved in numerous sectors at various stages of maturity including but not limited to startups and turnarounds.  Mr. McCann has a solid track record for effectively increasing market share, revenue and profitability in a timely and conscientious manner, this success can be attributed to strategic thinking along with excellent leadership, mentoring, negotiating and communication skills. An active participant in community events, Mr. McCann is a member of the Young President's Organization, a Director of the Hospice Calgary Foundation as well as a mentor in the Washington State University Mentors Program. Additionally, Mr. McCann is a both a sponsor of and volunteer at St. Mary's Feed the Hungry program.

Guomei ZHOU

Dr. Zhou Guomei is a senior member of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences and is currently working at the policy Research Center for Environment and Economy of State Environmental Protection Administration of China. As director and senior research fellow of the division of environmental economics studies. Zhou Guomei has 11 years experience as environmental economist and team leader for a number of studies on environmental and economic policies, providing research support for national decision-making for environmental protection in China. Zhou Guomei was senior visiting scholar of MIT of USA, Kyoto University of Japan and York University of the United Kingdom. She also worked as consultant and environmental economist expert in a number of studies for the World Bank , ADB , JICA, UNEP and other international sponsors. Her academic interests are environmental economics, theory and case study of sustainable development, economic evaluation of environmental impacts, environmental policy study, etc.

Manhong LIU

Prof.LIU Manhongwho is the research fellow at Harvard University and the tutor for doctorial students at Renmin University, graduated from University of Oklahoma with a Master’s degree in management and then from Cornell University with a Doctor’s degree in economics. Her reserch directions are private equity, venture capital and so on.
She established the Research Center for Venture Capital Investment at Renmin University and work as the director. It is the first research institution on venture capital. The center bases on research, and makes the contribution to private equity study and venture capital study under the international background.
Prof.LIU established the first doctor/master major on venture capital in China with Prof.CHENG Siwei, Prof.CHEN Gongmeng, and Prof.Martin Haemmig, who is from Switzerland.

KazimiKazimierz WA
ĆKOWSKerz is Member of Science Council of Faculty of Production Engineering (FPE), Warsaw University of Technology in Poland, Chair of Department for Computer Sciences and Mathematics of Radom University of Technology in Poland, Member of Technical Committee for Security of Information in IT Systems at Committee for Standardization in Poland. He was Guest / visiting professor of many universities worldwide (e.g. Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), Kharkov Economical State University (Ukraina) and executive academies ( e.g. "Dimitr A. Tsenov" Academy of Economics (Bulgaria) ).  He is  advisor and consultant to many organizations and corporations (e.g. Polish Telecom and France Telecom, EUROSTAT, Polish Committee for Standardization, Polish Committee for EU Integration et al.). He has been Author and co-author of 135 papers and books worldwide. He has been listed in the Polish Who’s Who. He is a  Specialist in IT, standardization, strategic business analysis, CASE technology, management, business information systems. In addition to English he is also fluent in Polish and Russian.


Hailan WANG
Male, Han nationality, Beijing, a researcher of the
Shougang Group.
Research fields: Multinational companies, sustainable development, regional development strategies, enterprise development strategy, technological innovation and enterprise competitiveness.having more than 200 research reports and policy proposals to the government and enterprises.

Wentang DU
Wentang DU was Vice-president of the Chinese International Culture Academy and researcher of World History Research Institute at the Chinese Social Science Institute. He graduated from the Language Faculty of German Gutting University with a Bachelor’s Degree. He then obtained his Master Degree from the German Literature Faculty His translated works include:  German National History, World War II Collection (16 volumes), Austrian History Cultural Collection (10 volumes), and the Judea Library (10 volumes). He has also edited many works including: Austrian History, Austrian Chinese Relations History, Great Time in China, Austrian History Cultural Collection. Among them, Great Time in China was awarded Grand Prize of Chinese national books in 2003.
